What does a CRIMECAST® Database report consist of?

A sample CRIMECAST Database provides "Past", "Current" and "Projected" CRIMECAST™ scores relative to the national, state and county average of 100. We provide the CRIMECAST™ scores for the ten (10) different crime categories described in the Introduction, and a total of ninety (90) crime risk scores per location. CAP Index can also back-date reports for litigation and past incident reporting. Custom samples may also be generated at CAP Index's discretion.

What do the scores mean?

CAP Index's scores range from 0-2000 with one hundred (100) being the average for each geographic comparison. A National Current CAP score of 270 means the address has a 2.7 times higher likelihood of a crime occurring there than the national average when comparing this site to every addressable location in the United States. A State Current CAP score of 450 means the address has a 4.5 times higher likelihood of a crime occurring than any addressable location within that particular state. The County scores measure the address to the rest of the county in which it is found. This allows for an objective comparison when comparing a "high risk" location in a "high risk area", vs. a "high risk" location in an otherwise low risk area.

What are the specific components of a CRIMECAST® score?

The CAP Index crime forecasting model incorporates a wide variety of information from the following sources: neighborhood demographic and physical housing data; FBI Uniform Crime Reports; National Crime Surveys; local police data; and company crime loss reports from all of the major industries. It is important to note that race/religion/gender is NOT a factor in our model.
Our information is updated on an on-going basis with annual database releases.

What is the difference between national, state and county scores?

The national score compares the crime risk at a specific location to the crime risk at "Main Street, USA". The national score allows you to compare multiple sites, regardless of location, to each other with a common baseline. Thus, you can compare the risk at a location in New York City with a location in Los Angeles without poring through and interpreting subjective Police data.

The state score compares a location to the rest of the properties in the state the site resides in, rather than to the country as a whole. We have found that clients operating multiple locations within the same state prefer this additional view of their risk.

The county score compares the location to the rest of the properties in the county the site resides in. This is important because in litigation, juries are chosen from the local environment. Their perceptions and anxieties about crime will be the result of their experiences in that county, not the nation. Thus, the security manager who finds him or herself in a premises security litigation is well-advised to be aware of the local as well as the national crime risks at his or her sites.

Standard accounts are designed for smaller companies with minimal U.S. locations, who have only one individual user ordering and viewing reports. Credit Card purchases are the only accepted payment methods.
Enterpise Accounts are designed for organizations that may have multiple users within one department or several departments, with numerous U.S. locations. Enterpise accounts may elect to pay by credit card or invoice.

Will my personal information be protected?

At CAP Index, we take the security of your data seriously. That's why our web-based version of CRIMECAST Online utilizes the lastest security technologies, redundancy and complete data encryption.

User information as well as corporate data is encrypted using Advance Encryption Standards, also known as Rijndael. All e-commerce traffic is through a 128-bit encrypted Secure Socket Layer (SSL).

How is my corporate data protected and who will have access to my data?

An individual data is and will not be made available to anyone other than users within in the account itself. The individual data itself is protected in a secure hosted environment with no access from anyone other than CAP Index to support the application. Access to corporate informatoin will be dependent on the role the users are granted within the account.
